".....Mr Buthlay, one of the best-known skippers connected with this part, had taken the place for the last three trips of the skipper and owner, Mr Thomas Main, Torry. His youngest son, James Buthlay, the first deckhand, had shown himself to be a plucky lad. Although but eighteen years of age, he had served in the trenches for seven months before being released by the authorities in September on account of his youth. He was an enthusiastic musician. The eldest son, George M. Buthlay, is at present in Duns Red Cross Hospital, suffering from wounds. The second son, William, is second officer on the S.S. North Sands.
