In the large Edinburgh University Press volume "A Military History of Scotland" which was published last year, there is a chapter on Scottish Military Monuments (chapter 29). It was written by Professor Elaine W. McFarland of Glasgow Caledonian University.

On her University web page one of her spcialisms and interests is "The Great War – Memory and Commemoration"

From what I can see she hasn't published anything about Scottish war memorials. Has anyone read this chapter (or the book), is it worth looking for? The book had a hefty price-tag of £150 new, now a snip at £114 or you can snap up a used copy for only £85 on Amazon!

Why don't you ask her?

Ken

If you ask an academic if their chapter is worth reading they are not going to say anything other than yes!

It looks like Prof McFarland was asked to contribute to the Military History of Scotland book on the back of a chapter she had written for The Oxford Handbook of Modern Scottish History.

Thanks to a preview of both books on Google Books I would suggest that if you read the Modern Scottish History contribution from Professor McFarland then you've pretty much read the Military History one too.
