I've just come across three brothers who are listed (but not together) on three different memorials in Wigtownshire - is this unusual?
The Wigtownshire Free Press on 14 June 1917 reported that John Griffin of Bladnoch had been informed that his son John had been killed in action. Another son, George, Scots Guards had been killed at Festubert on 16 May 1915 and his eldest son, Robert, Black Watch, was still on active service.
Private (4614) John Griffin, 20th Royal Fusiliers died on 22 May 1917. He had been employed at High Glasnick Farm which is on the border of Kirkcowan and Penninghame Parishes and he is listed on both memorials.
Private (12115) George Griffin, 2nd Scots Guards died on 16 May 1915. He is listed on the Glasserton Parish Memorial together with John.
Private (S/5953) Robert Griffin 7th Black Watch (Son of John Griffin of Bladnoch, Wigtown) died 31 July 1917. He is listed on the Kirkinner Parish Memorial.
So John is on three parish memorials, George and Robert on one. _________________ Ken |
