This is a new memorial and replaces all the memorials that were relocated to the church from various dissolved congregations over the years;

Isn't this a really good idea?
And a really attractive material.
One name caught my eye - and then his age and then the awards:
TOMBAZIS, JAMES LYELL
Rank:Second Lieutenant
Date of Death:08/10/1918
Age:19.
Regiment/Service:Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment)
2nd Bn.
Awards:D S O, M C.
Grave ReferenceA. 12.
CemeteryBRANCOURT-LE-GRAND-MILITARY CEMETERY
Additional Information:
Son of John Anderson Tombazis, of The Cottage, Craigie, Broughty Ferry, Dundee. Educated at Fettes College and Sandhurst.
L/Gazette 11/10/1918 p.12092 M.C. Citation
2nd Lt. James Lyell Tombazis, Notts, and
Derby. R.
During a minor enterprise on an enemy's
post this officer was wounded, but he declined
to withdraw, sending back other
wounded men, while he himself waited outside
the post to prevent the enemy returning.
He displayed conspicuous gallantry and endurance
throughout the operation.
L/Gaz 7/3/1919 p.3226 award of D.S.O.
There is no mention of his death on either L/Gazette notice.
All the military records spell his middle name LYELL _________________ Ken |

I wonder what happened to the memorials the names were taken from?

Call me old fashioned but this modern memorial appears a bit "cold".
I'm asking the same question as Adam, where are the original memorials that it replaced? _________________

Bear with me. I have been making enquiries regarding these memorials for several months. I hope to have news in the near future. |

James Lyell Tombazis was originally commemorated on St. Enoch's Parish Church Memorial. |

There are photographs of 2 memorials posted in "Unknown Memorials" (on this forum) on 14 March 2013. Its not known which Church/Churches they came from and its rather sad to see them stored in poor condition.
Could these photos be sent to a local paper asking the readers if they can identify where they belonged?
