Just for a bit of fun, can you identify the memorials in the recent item on Border news at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBlOuPY61vM&feature=youtu.be a couple of clues, they are all in Dumfries and Galloway and some appear more than once. I'll bet there is one that will have you scratching your heads unless you are local - I will post the answer in a day or so.

I can get the obvious ones:

Dumfries
Kirkcudbright
Annan

I remember the updates about Cummertrees Parish Church Lych Gate restoration.

Can't identify the cross though. Is it near Dalbeattie?

Between Dumfries and Annan (R.......). Have you noticed the similarity to Terregles?

Well spotted, Ruthwell parish in the village of Clarencefield.

These celtic cross memorials would be a study in their own right, Ruthwell and Terregles are similar and my own Dalry is not too disimilar, also Bankend (Caerlaverock), along with Sorbie and Isle of Whithorn.

Paul

The Celtic Crosses and obelisks around Scotland are worthy of a great deal of study. I wouldn't be surprised if many of those in D&G came from one or two big masonary firms.
