Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church, Observatory Road, Glasgow G12 9AR

OS Grid Ref: NS 565672

In 1950, when the Rev. Dr. Maxwell, Minister of Hillhead, was translated to Whitekirk and Tyninghame, it was agreed that Hillhead should unite with some other Church, and it was suggested that the Sub-Committee on Union and Re-Adjustments might approach the Belmont Congregation with that in view. Belmont Congregation expressed itself as willing, and generously elected to worship in the old Hillhead building. The two Congregations were formally united on 3rd December 1950.
In 1978, following discussion with Glasgow Presbytery it was agreed that the congregation of Belmont and Hillhead would unite with that of Kelvinside (Botanic Gardens) to form Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church. The two buildings were placed on the property market and following the sale of the Kelvinside building the congregations formally united on 18th of May 1978, and worship continues to this day within the Hillhead building.

The Lectern
The Lectern is of bronze in the traditional form of an eagle with outspread wings, symbolising the inspiration of the Gospel. It was formerly in Belmont Church and was removed thence at the union of the two Churches to replace the wooden one formerly in Hillhead. It was presented to Belmont Church at the close of the South African War by Sir William F. and Lady Russell in thanksgiving for the safe return of their son William from active service.

Wooden Cross
This originally formed part of the War Memorial in Belmont Church before being transferred to its present position. At the centre of the Cross is a circle, signifying Eternity or Everlasting Life.
