Date of Death: 22 Jul 1945 (Age 18)
Memorial: Has no known grave nor memorial
Information: Born 1926 at Cowdenbeath. Lived at Whinneyknowe, North Queensferry. Joined the Merchant navy and was in Empire Duke, which was a 7.240 ton "Liberty Ship".
She left the Clyde on 22 April 1945 to join convoy ON 298 bound for New York. She then went on to Montreal. In the period June - July she made voyages between Montreal and the Downs (off Kent) before returning to Montreal.
James was accidentally drowned at 3pm on 22 July 1945 while the ship was in Montreal. _________________ Researching North Queensferry War Memorial |
