I think they could do worse than trawl through this forum!

(From the latest Scots Guards newsletter)

THE SCOTS GUARDS MEMORIALS PROJECT

In many parts of the world there are memorials of various sorts put up over the years in remembrance of Scots Guardsmen in both war and peace. As part of the work of the Regimental Historical Committee a project has now begun to set up a computer database of these memorials and Neil Crockett has generously and kindly volunteered to co-ordinate it. Some of the memorials are well known but others are not and we want your help to find them.

We are looking for:

Large or small memorials to single Scots Guardsmen, detachments or Battalions, from times long past right through to the present day.
The memorial could be anything from a plaque to a stained glass window in a church, from trees of remembrance, to a cairn on a hillside. Indeed anything which is in respectful memory of members of the Regiment.
The names of Scots Guardsmen who lost their lives listed on a local town or village war memorial and details of those war memorials.
Headstones of graves in the UK or abroad which record service in the Scots Guards, but please NOT those who are buried or commemorated at Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemeteries and Memorials to the Missing because they are listed comprehensively and RHQ have the details already.

We know of memorials from as far as Canada and the Far East to as near as Edinburgh, the highlands, London and Liverpool but there are many still unknown. This will be a continuing project and we will be grateful to hear starting now about memorials you know of and about those you discover on your travels. Please let Neil Crockett know as he is poised and ready, waiting to hear from you.

The information wanted is:

• Who or what formation of the Regiment is named on the memorial.
What event, dates or other inscriptions are on the memorial.

• The country, nearest town/city or other details of location.

• A description of the memorial with a photograph, preferably digital, if possible.

• For bigger sites, a copy of any advertising information or leaflets would be useful.

Please send any information that you find to:
