Located outside the church behind the Greenyards

A very difficult memorial to photograph clearly due to the metal names plaques.

difficult or not, you have done a great job with the plates as it is all clearly legible

I can't seem to find this on UKNIWM - is this another unlisted memorial?

I thought I'd add the following piece of information which is valuable in connecting people/families and places.
A list of casualties appeared in the Blairgowrie Advertiser on Saturday 18th August 1917, one being;
Pvt. Bruce Stewart (only brother of Mrs Ritchie, The Neuk, Blairgowrie) Machine Gun Section, Royal Scots - was a wounded prisoner of war in Germany.
Name: STEWART, BRUCE
Initials: B
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Royal Scots
Unit Text: 15th Bn.
Age: 35
Date of Death: 13/06/1917
Service No: 18154
Additional information: Son of W. H. and Margaret Bruce Stewart, of "Tweed View," Newstead, Melrose, Roxburghshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: X. E. 1.
Cemetery: NIEDERZWEHREN CEMETERY

I believe Bruce Stewart is listed here on the Melrose WM.

Bruce Stewart's sister-in-law was;

Name: RITCHIE, JESSIE
Initials: J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Staff Nurse
Regiment: Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service
Unit Text: Reserve
Date of Death: 13/08/1916
Additional information: Sister of James Ritchie, of The Neuk, Rosemount, Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: 0.10.
Cemetery: SALONIKA (LEMBET ROAD) MILITARY CEMETERY

Jessie Ritchie is not commemorated at Blairgowrie but appears on the Cargill WM, Perthshire.

dhubthaigh: I thought I'd thank you in public for your contribution. I found it through Googling "Niederzwehren Cemetery" and "Bruce Stewart".

Bruce Stewart was my mother's first cousin so I appreciate your putting that Blairgowrie Advertiser casualty list online.

Much information about the family in there, so thanks again!

The Second World War panel features the name of Alistair (Sandy) Walter McGinnis who was awarded the George Medal in 1944:

From Page 1224 of the Supplement of the London Gazette of 14th March, 1944:

Name: McGINNIS, ALLISTAIR WALTER
Initials: A W
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Warrant Officer
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Unit Text: 13 Sqdn.
Date of Death: 20/08/1944
Service No: 1344410
Awards: G M
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 13, Column 2.
Memorial: MALTA MEMORIAL

I would have expected to see the award of the George Medal mentioned in the CWGC extract.

And help it did Very Happy
I've been trying to link this man with the one listed on the Castle Douglas War Memorial.
From info. from Ralph we knew that he had enlisted at Dumfries and that he was an ironmonger - and yesterday I found this:

Dumfries and Galloway Standard 23 June 1917 page 3
MISSING
Private Bruce Stewart, Royal Scots, officially reported missing since the end of April is the only son of Mr. Stewart, coal agent, Darnick, Melrose.
He served his apprenticeship as an ironmonger in Melrose and for 13 years he was employed by Messrs. McGuffog and McDonald, Ironmongers, Castle Douglas, He enlisted in November 1914 and had been at the front for about two years.

I've e-mailed this directly to Ralph
Thanks Mark

Ken

You can pass on that he is also listed on the Darnick War Memorial

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1157

Darnick is now effectively part of Melrose but at the time would have been a small village to the west of the town.

Regards

Adam

Listed here is TROOPER A. CHAMBERS.
I ran across a newspaper report while researching Kirkcowan WM in Wigtownshire, which states that R. Chambers of Shennaton, Kirkcowan had been informed that his brother Lance Corporal Alex. Chambers, Dragoon Guards had been killed in action on 22(sic)/11/1917.
Prior to enlisting he had been a warden at an asylum in Melrose.

CemeteryORIVAL WOOD CEMETERY, FLESQUIERES
Additional Information:
Son of Alexander Chambers, of Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire.

He is listed on the Kirkmaiden Parish War Memorial. (but not on Kirkcowan)

CWGC have updated this entry to correct the date and to note that he served as CHALMERS.
