The Glasgow Herald, Tuesday, 2nd January, 1917.
"Deaths on Service.
MACDONALD.-
At 7th General Hospital, on 29th December (of spotted fever), Archibald R. Macdonald, Royal Engineers, Arts student, University of St. Andrews, aged 22, beloved eldest son of James Macdonald, Ardvurich, Callander."


Born 20th July, 1894, he is listed on St. Andrews University Roll of Honour and Roll of Service 1914-1919.

At the base of the shaft of the mercat cross (below the WW2 plaque) there are additional names plaques for WW1 on the 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock faces-
The 6 o'clock face plaque has the names of Donald William Rennie and Duncan Robertson Carmichael;
The 3 o'clock face plaque has the name of Peter Robertson
