Not listed on UKNIWM

Located in the wooden chapel belonging to Crawfordton House at OS Map Ref NX 796904

The window dates from 1947 and is by Abbey Studio, Edinburgh.

This was Belmont School when the memorial was put in place, later Crawfordton House School and lastly Cademuir International School. The school closed and attempts have been made to sell it over the last six years, it is currently in the hands of the receivers KPMG and is up for sale. It seems unlikely that the chapel will survive, access is currently difficult, requiring a walk across muddy ground, through overgrown shrubbery to finally enter the building on hands and knees through a broken panel!

Neither of the men commemorated have any obvious link with Scotland on the CWGC records but I believe that Douglas Kennedy was from the family that live in a large house just a few hundred yards down the road.

The whole window is 2.26 metres wide by 2.13 metres high.

My thanks to John Gourlay for arranging access and for guiding me to the building.

As this must be considered to be at risk, I will report it both to the War Memorials Trust and to the Scottish Stained Glass Symposium.

Douglas is found on the Glencairn Wm and Rolls of Honour in Glencairn Church and Wallaceton Hall; and commemorated on family graves in Glencairn Churchyard and Loretto, Musselburgh.
Some history of Douglas found on Pages 196/7 on 'The Glencairn Memorial Book' 2007 - by Alexander Hall and Anthony Murray-Flutter.

Ken,
The Kennedy family came from Townhead, Kirkland, although Cecil Kennedy Douglas's father had spent a good deal of time in India before going to Nelson New Zealand. Two of Douglas's uncles were killed in WW1 - Lieut Charles Kenndy died 16/11/1916 on pages57/8 in Glencairn Book. and his brother Walter Douglas Kenndy killed 19/4/1917 pages 151/2 in Glencairn book. Both men on Glencairn WM and Rolls of honour in Glencairn Church and Wallaceton Hall.
Teddy.

He died in a boating accident on Belfast Lough. Initially post "Missing Believed Drowned" his body was recovered and buried in Belfast City Cemetery.
