201718 Alexander Smith R.A.F. (died 3rd March 1919). He was aged 30 and unmarried.

From a newspaper in the Glasgow Herald dated 6th of March 1919.
"At Stobhill, on 3rd March (of pneumonia), Alex. Smith, A.M.I., R.A.F. after 4 years 5 months service, eldest son of the late James Smith, coachman, Edinburgh."

Kinnethmont has the case in hand.

Cheers,
Derek.

He has gone forward for further enquiry due to his DC having a service number on it. That may, however be in error.
Nothing was found to support the " 4 years 5 months service " statement.
It appears he may have links to the Edinburgh area. If anyone knows more of him it would be of interest.

Was Stobhill a military hospital or was it treating civilians in 1919?

A number of sources say that military staffing of the hospitals (3rd and 4th Scottish) ended in 1919 but they were not handed back for civilian use until 1920.

It appears this was not a successful submission as I have been unable to locate him on the CWGC.

As Mike Morley's submission "slipped through the cracks" perhaps this one did too?

What information do we have for this man? I've had sight of the Soldiers Effects entry, what else have we managed to obtain?

If we can gather together what we have, we can make a decision on whether there's enough to submit this one.
