I have not had any further mails from James Smythe or anyone else from the LSF project which I can only assume means they intend to continue with their pilot project without seeking our members' involvement and with that they are turning their backs on the vast amount of photographs, data and knowledge we hold.
Their loss.
Recent posts on our areas sections up and down the country show how dedicated our members are and how much information this 'discussion forum' holds.
I propose we move on from discussions about the LSF project and instead focus our activities on what we do best. At the same time we should look at creating a better platform for our data and start blowing our own trumpet a bit more to make sure a fiasco like this doesn't happen again. |

Thanks for posting the links Mark.
I had a look and to date, the only memorials which have any sort of info attached are Stirling & Dunblane Civics (unless I'm missing something?).
What in the name of the wee man have they been doing for the past year?
Two memorials??
I was going to check to see how many are in our Stirling(shire) section, then thought ..... what's the point?

From the LSF response on 09.08.11
As well as our teacher colleagues also involved in the project is a member of the Royal British Legion Scotland (Dunblane Branch) who has been conducting his own research, and we have discussed our plans with Poppyscotland. Over the next seven years there will be a huge amount of academic and public interest in the Great War. Whether our project goes beyond its pilot stage we do not know, but we fully intend making a contribution to the better understanding of the War, its aftermath and its memorialisation.
I assume that this Dunblane research is related to a recent post on Dunblane thread;

I also found that Poppy Scotland's Education Department were running a War Memorial Research Challenge and then sending the information to LSF. |
