He was employed as a fireman with the Dumbarton and Balloch Joint Railway Company prior to be called up."

"Corporal James Ferguson, of the Vale of Leven Company of Volunteers, was killed in action. His wife and four little children reside at 190 Bridge Street, Alexandria. Ferguson was about 30 years of age, and was well known in the Vale of Leven. He had a medal for the Boer War. He joined the Territorials early in September. Prior to enlisting he was employed in Singer's Works, Clydebank."
