URE.- On active service, Captain Ian Ure, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, eldest son of Mr and Mrs John G. Ure, Rockbank, Helensburgh, and grandson of ex-Lord Provost Ure, Glasgow."
Born Helensburgh, April, 1885.

Captain IAN URE.- Killed. Captain Ian Ure, son of Mr. John Ure, of Messrs. John Ure and Son, Crown Flour Mills, Glasgow, was 32 years of age. He was born in Helensburgh and educated at Larchfield and Loretto (1898-1903). On leaving school he entered his father's business, and later became a partner in the concern. He took a keen interest in matters connected with the Territorial Force, and rose to the rank of Captain. About two years ago he went to Flanders as an officer in a pioneer detachment of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and in October last he was transferred to another front. He was recently awarded the Military Cross for distinguished service. Captain Ure was a nephew of Lord Strathclyde and a grandson of the late Lord Provost Ure of Glasgow."
His name also appears on the Loretto Roll of Honour (photo) together with a short school biography:-
