Hi All,
Attempting to post my first picture, so be gentle with me.

Its the London and North Eastern Railway Co 1914-1919 Memorial at Aberdeen (Joint) Station. I walk past it every day, no I'm not a train spotter, I work for GNER. If any one wants photos of individual names I will try to post them. If this works that is Confused

The memorial at Aberdeen station is to the men of the GREAT NORTH OF SCOTLAND RAILWAY COMPANY whose crest is at the top of the memorial. They were later taken over by the LNER in 1923 when the Great North became the Northern Scottish Area of the LNER.
The plaque to the right confirms this.

William Middleton and Edward Adam Souter from Kennethmont are named thereon.

I have a framed photo of the memorial which was presented to the families of fallen staff by the company. Willie Middleton is a relative whose details are found at

great memorial, great picture. Any chance you could also post the plaque to the right that explains the memorial when you get a chance?

Great photo, I find it very difficult to get photos of memorials indoors.

I've edited the post to reflect that this isn't the LNER memorial but the GNSR memorial.

The Memorial is inside the Booking Office. They are away to start a major refurb at the station so I don't know if the memorial will be moved, will keep everyone posted.

Sorry for the confusion regarding the company concerned. I think this occured because the small plaque to the right of the memorial states that casualties from WW11 are remembered on the LNER memorial at Kings Cross Station, I think. I am working tonight so will check then.

Hi Spoons,

Unable to get a good photo of the small plaque beside the memorial as it is behind glass, but here is the text.

"The tablet on the left is in memory of these employees of the
Great North of Scotland Railway who lost their lives in the
Great war 1914-18."

"The memorial was unvailed on the 15th February 1921 by the
Very Reverend Sir George Adam Smith, Principal of
Aberdeen University in the Headquarters of the railway at 80
Guild Street."

"The tablet was rededicated on its present site on 8th
November 1981."

"Local employees who gave their lives in the Second World
War (1939-45) are commemorated on the Memorial at Kings
Cross Station, London."

Aren't those brass plaques the most difficult to photograph though? That and under glass. If anyone comes up with a good way to do it, they could make their fortune
