Currently transcribing the Ormiston memorial and the name Eben Grossart stuck out, so did a wee SNWM & CWGC search, no Ebeneezer's. In fact there are few Grossart/Grosart/Grossert's, they seem to hail from Liverpool mostly.
Anyone fancy finding him for me?

There are three likely ones born in the area, one named Eben. None of them died in Scotland during the relevant years for CWGC _________________ Jim

The John Gray Centre in Haddington have identified him as a man in SA Forces from the East Lothian Courier of 13/04/1917
http://www.johngraycentre.org/east-lothian-subjects/war-battles-military/war-memorials/ormiston-world-war-one-memorial/
Grossart / Grossert Eben / J G Lance Corporal South African Infantry 9th Regiment 01/04/1917
GROSSERT, J G
Rank: Lance Corporal
Service No: 5400
Date of Death: 01/04/1917
Regiment/Service: South African Infantry 9th Regt.
Grave Reference: B. 15.
Cemetery: DURBAN (ORDNANCE ROAD) MILITARY CEMETERY
Without seeing the newspaper article I must say I have my doubts. Another South African website identifies this man as John Gillis Grossert
