SCOTS GUARDS
Robert Muir

(Glasgow Herald 12th April 1915)
"Mr & Mrs Muir, South Beach, Jerviston Street, New Stevenston, have been informed that their son Robert, serving in Flanders with the Scots Guards, has been missing since the battle at Neuve Chapelle. The intelligence comes through a comrade, who states in his letter that Muir failed to answer a roll call after the battle. The missing soldier is 24 years of age, and joined the colours in September, and was drafted to the front in February."

(Glasgow Herald 24th April 1915)
"Private Robert Muir, 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, has been officially returned killed in action on March 12. Private Muir joined the colours in September, and was drafted to France in February. After the battle of Neuve Chapelle he failed to answer the roll-call, and one of his chums advised Muir's parents - who resided at South Beach, Jerviston Street, New Stevenston - to that effect. Muir was only 21 years of age."

(Glasgow Herald 27th April 1915)
"Private Andrew Myles, 1st Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, is unofficially reported killed in action on April 16. The intelligence comes to his parents from a chum, who states in his letter that Myles was struck by a bullet which penetrated the lung and cause instant death. He was only 20 years of age, and resided with his parents at 21 Clydesdale Buildings, Mossend. He had had a years service in the Militia, and was called up in August, being drafted to France in January. He was an employee of Messrs Stewarts and Lloyds at their Clydesdale Iron and Steel Works, Mossend."

"Private Thomas Brogan, 2nd Coldstream Guards, has fallen a victim to poison gas. He succumbed in a London Hospital. Private Brogan was 22 years of age, and joined the Coldstreams a few days before the war broke out. He was previously a miner at Holytown Colliery, residing with his mother at Nimmo's Rows, Holytown."

"Mr & Mrs Ferguson, who reside at Jerviston Square, New Stevenston, have received intimation from the War Office that their son, Private James Ferguson, 2nd K.O.S.B., has been missing since May 7. Private Ferguson was a Reservist. In December he was invalided home with frost bite, and afterwards returned to the front. Previously to going on service he was employed as a miner at Messrs Nimmo and Company's "Blackie" Colliery, New Stevenston."

He was 25 years of age, and had been in the regular forces for a period of six years, during which he saw service in China and India. he took part in the landing operations at Gallipoli and sustained wounds to which he succumbed on June 16."
