Another Nursing Sister from the Singapore evacuation with a Scottish connection.
Name: McMILLAN, NELL
Initials: N S
Nationality: United Kingdom

Additional information: Nursing Sister. Daughter of Duncan and Helen Steel McMillan, of Paisley Road West, Glasgow. Died at Padang.
Casualty Type: Civilian War Dead

From details recorded in the S.S. Kuala survivors list - Sister McMillan is recorded as being either a Civilian or Colonial Nurse Service Nurse. She survived the sinking of the S.S. Kuala but was imprisoned by the Japanese at Fraterhuis Camp, Padang. She was taken ill from abdominal pain and transferred to the local hospital where she was operated on by a Japanese surgeon who discovered inoperable cancer, she was returned to the camp where she died a few days later.
Any further known details welcome.
