I have spent hours trying to find a solution to the total mess that Photobucket has left me in. The recent changes are a nightmare.

Photobucket has stopped showing filenames in the albums so you now see just a thumbnail unless you hover over a picture and read the filename from the bottom. With perhaps 100 thumbnails of gravestones in a single folder, all looking the same, I cannot find anything.

I have tried imageshack, picasaweb, flickr and others but cannot find one image hosting site that shows filenames. Except that is for picasa which has to have software installed on the PC and then promptly merges all similarly named folders so that for example my Dalton Cemetery 'low res', 'hi res' and 'yet to be sorted' folders are all merged into one.

Can anyone suggest an alternative image hosting site so I can start posting again?

I sympathise Paul.

I added a 'sticky' post to both forums a wee while back advising anyone who comes across the 'image missing' box to contact the person who posted it. (No matter what I tried, I couldn't re-instate a couple of Photobucket albums and I knew loads of my piccies had vanished)

Doesn't help the predicament you've found yourself in in the slightest - but I'm under the impression now that all these types of 'hosts' are going down the same route and although it might just be me - I think they're getting much too complicated.

Anne & Paul

I suspect that I have misinterpreted the situation but does this mean that you no longer have copies of your photos? If that is the case I will gladly go through my records and pick out those that I reeived through your assistance and copy them for you; will take a while but it is the least that I can do to help.

Thanks Tony, I still have mine but just have a big problem of finding what is posted online and identifying photos. Anne has lost her online ones but I don't know if she has them offline.

BTW, can you pm me with your email address as I have a photo you might be interested in (not Scottish, so off-topic for this project).

Sorry Tony,

I maybe didn't word my message very well.

I've still got all my photos and thankfully have indexed them all too, so if anyone contacts me via either forum for one that's missing, I can usually find the originals easily enough.

Photobucket as a 'hosting' site used to be very straight-forward to use (providing you remembered your user name & password, which I frequently forgot Sad ) A change of e-mail address was also an issue which I never got round. It's now much more complicated and you have to go through umpteen processes to get a photo on to the forum and as Paul mentioned in his message, figure out where in the name of goodness to find the correct filename to upload it in the first place!!

The best solution is to get a Domain name / Hosting package. They are, however, not free - £100?

In addition, you can then create a website or simply upload your images to your site and link to them. You have complete control of all aspects / unlike the freebie service which causes images to " disappear " from this site and others.
They make nothing from the free service they provide, so why should they care if the service changes, etc.
