William John Rodger – age 18 – Lance Corporal (S/8080) 10th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
William enlisted in Ayr and went to France in June 1915. He died in the 13th General Hospital, Boulogne.
Born 1897 in Carlisle, Cumberland. Son of William and Annie Rodger of 1 Tig Road, Newton-on-Ayr, Ayrshire. Formerly of 5 Maxwell Street, Annan Road, Dumfries.
Died of Wounds – 2 October 1915.
Commonwealth War Grave – Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Dumfries War Memorial.

Named on the Brydekirk Parish War Memorial, near Annan, Dumfriesshire as:

CAPT. JOHN VIVERS, 5th RSF.
John Vivers – age 25 – Captain, 1/5th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.
John was educated at Annan Academy, where he was dux in 1904, and at Edinburgh University 1906-1910 where he graduated M.A. (Honours, History) He became an English master at Ayr Academy and was living at 23 Fort Street in Ayr when he was commissioned in the 5th RSF in April 1914. John landed with his battalion at Gallipoli in June 1915 and was promoted to Captain in September but a month later he was killed.
Born 1890 at Millburn Farmhouse in Brydekirk. Son of William and Mary Viversof Millburn Farm, Brydekirk and of Manse Crescent, Brydekirk.
Killed in Action on 27 October 1915 and buried in Redoubt Cemetery, Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey.
Also named on the Annan Academy War Memorial, on the Edinburgh University Roll of the Fallen, on the Ayr Academy War Memorial and on the Ayr Burgh War Memorial.

Named on the Douglas Ewart High School memorial in Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire as:

THOMAS TEMPLETON - ROYAL FLEET AUXILIARY.
Thomas Templeton – age 44 – Master, M.V. British Liberty (London) Merchant Navy.
Thomas had obtained his 2nd Mate Certificate in Glasgow in March 1915 and his 1st Mate Certificate in Cardiff in July 1916. He was the Master of the tanker “British Liberty” when she was sunk by a British mine in the Channel when enroute from Haifa to Dunkerque with a cargo of crude oil.
Born 1895 in Garlieston, Sorbie, Wigtownshire. Son of Michael Templeton (schoolmaster) and of Jessie Simpson (McClure) Templeton of Garlieston. Husband of Margaret Fraser (Martin) Templeton of 10 Bellvale Avenue, Ayr who he married in 1920 in Whithorn, Wigtownshire.
Lost at Sea on 6 January 1940. and named on the Tower Hill Memorial, London.

"A telegram has been received in Ayr from the Canadian office in London intimating that Private Thomas C. Chalmers, Princess Patricia's Light Infantry, has been killed in action. His parents, who reside at 22 Kyle Street, Ayr, had received a letter from him at the beginning of the week, and he wrote in high spirits. Private Chalmers was an old Ayr Academy boy, and served an apprenticeship in the British Linen Company's Bank in Ayr. Subsequently he went to America, where he was engaged in the Nova Scotia Bank, first at Toronto and later at Peterborough, Ontario. He was 23 years of age. Before leaving Ayr he was well known in junior football circles. An elder brother, Walter, also serving with the Canadians, is at present lying wounded in a hospital in France, and a third brother is in the ranks of the Ayrshire Yeomanry at their war station."
