"Trooper Robert McWhirter Adams, Ayrshire Yeomanry, son of Mr David Adams, Market Inn, Ayr, whose death took place in Stobshill hospital, Glasgow, on Friday from pleurisy, was buried in Ayr cemetery yesterday with semi-military honours, a detachment of Ayrshire Yeomanry attending. He had been for three years in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he was employed in the Canadian Bank of Commerce. He returned home about 15 months ago, and when war broke out he joined the Ayrshire Yeomanry and went to Cupar."

"Mrs Nelson, South Harbour Street, Ayr, widow of Sergeant James Nelson, Royal Scots Fusiliers, who was killed near Ypres on October 22, has received a letter from Mrs Baird Smith, wife of Colonel Baird Smith, commanding the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, expressing heartfelt sympathy in her loss.
Mrs Smith states that she had learned from her husband that Sergeant Nelson went out on a sortie, smiling and plucky, and was killed. Sergeant Nelson had over 15 years service, and possessed 2 medals with 5 bars for the South African campaign."

"Mr and Mrs Jack, 70 Mill Street, Ayr, have received intimation from the war office that their son, Private John Jack, 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed in action at Ypres on November 11. Deceased served five years with the colours, and was on the reserve when war broke out. He left Ayr on August 27, and took part in some fierce fighting with his battalion. He was unmarried and 25 years of age."
