Daniel Yates Pattison caused a bit of head scratching but Ken Morrison has provided a plausible explanation as to why he appears on CWGC as Daniel Paterson.

Daniel Yates Pattison was born in Rutherglen in Rutherglen in 1887. The family grave in Rutherglen Cemetery, which can be seen on the cemeteries thread, photographed by David McNay states, ""Also their third son, Daniel Yates, A&S Highlanders, presumed killed at Loos 25th Sept 1915 aged 28 years."

Ken's reearch has identified him on His entry on Soldiers who Died in the Great War: Daniel Paterson born Tarbert, Stirlingshire. Residence Rutherglen. Enlisted Stirling. His Medal Card has Daniel Paterson landed France 11/5/1915 and the 10th A&SH landed at Boulogne that day. His Soldiers Effects record is indexed as Daniel Paterson but the handwritten entry of his name is “distorted” - however his father's name is handwritten clearly as James M Pattison.

James M Pattison and family appear on the 1901 census as residing at 80 Brown Street, Rutherglen, with Daniel aged 14 and the third-born son.

It is the 1911 census that reveals a possible explanation for Pattison/Paterson as Daniel pops up in India serving with the Black Watch. However, the following year he was discharged and released from the hospital at Netley. The conjecture is that he made some sort of recovery but decided, for whatever reason, to change his surname slightly.
