Paterson & Benzie, Chartered Accountants, Glasgow; on the outbreak of war enlisted in the Glasgow Highlanders 2nd September 1914; gazetted Second Lieutenant in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders 21st May 1915; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 20th August 1916; was reported wounded and missing after the fighting at Greenland Hill, Arras, 3rd May 1917, and is now assumed to have been killed in action on or about that date. RICHARDS, R.I.M.
Robert (Bobby) Ian Mackay Richards – age 23 – Warrant Officer/Pilot (1109431) 31 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
31 Squadron flew Douglas Dakota Transports in Burma from early 1942, supporting the Fourteenth, the Forgotten Army. Duties were re-supply, air-drop, and casevac. Operating in monsoon conditions, largely from Indian bases, 31 suffered many losses. The Squadron supported Chindit raids, the epic battles of Kohima, Imphal and the Arakan, as well as Hump runs across the eastern Himalayas to China.
Born 1920 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow. Son of Alexander Y. Richards and Isabella S. Richards, of Rutherglen, Lanarkshire.
Killed in Action on 28 November 1943.
Commonwealth War Grave – Taukkyan War Cemetery, Mayanmar (Burma)

Named on the Tinwald Parish War Memorial in Dumfriesshire as:

L/CPL. JAMES DALZELL, SCOTTISH RIFLES.
James Dalzell – age 34 – Lance Corporal (40922) 9th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
James was a tubeworker in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire when he married in 1910 and he enlisted as Private (1729) in the Lanarkshire Yeomanry in Rutherglen but he was posted to the 5th and then the 9th Cameronians.
Born 1884 in Tinwald. Son of Jemima Dalzell of Kirkland, Tinwald. Husband of Jessie (Semple) Dalzell who he married in 1910 in Rutherglen.
Missing in Action on 23 March 1918 and named on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
