Has anyone any info on George Morton listed on the Troon memorial? I am trying to identify him. There is an individual in nearby Dundonald church which was dedicated to her son (unnamed) by Mrs George Morton of Troon and I am trying to determine if it is the same man. Only 6 G Mortons on SNWM (but he could be missing of course) and searches in Geoff's search engines for CWGC and SNWM don't find anything nor can I find anything in SDGW or De Ruvigny. If the mother could afford a significant church memorial then he may well have been an officer and my current favourite is a Capt in 5th HLI (Glasgow Bn). Can anyone help?

Morton park in Kilmaurs was gifted by the same George Morton of Lochgreen, Troon who put the memorial in Dundonald church.
It seems that Baron Fergus Morton of Henryton, East Ayrshire was brother of the man commemorated in the church but what was his name and how did he die?

Fergus Dunlop Morton, Baron Morton of Henryton PC, MC (17 October 1887 – 18 July 1973)
Born in Glasgow, he was a younger son of George Morton.[2] He was educated at the Kelvinside Academy and went then to St John's College, Cambridge, winning a scholarship in classics.
Assuming his brother went to same school could this be the chap
Morton, George – (Possible) Lieutenant 18th Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers, 23/11/1918 ?
Also this from Glasgow University
Lieutenant G Morton
Rank: Lieutenant
Regiment: 11th North Stafford Regiment
Degree: Student
Awards: N/A

Photograph ID: N/A |

Unfortunately the Troon memorial has no regiment, rank or date of death so this is making it hard. Not to mention the fact that the church memorial does not mention the dead son's name!
What I really need to do is confirm how Fergus's brother died, his name does not matter because I do not have one.
I think I might try the session clerk.
