We have these memorials on the forum. They share several names across the memorials because the communites are close together.

Bonar and Rosehall are both in the Parish of Creich. There was a disagreement over the memorial in Bonar and although it is called the Creich memorial it doesn't actually cover the Rosehall part of the parish. In 1914 they were in Sutherland

Ardgay and Edderton were in Ross-shire. All four are now in the district of the Highland Council are which covers Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross.

For the Millenium Mr and Mrs Hill of Ardgay set out to find out more information behind the names on their local memorial and got lottery funding for their research. I provided Mrs Hill with information I had and it is now on the forum here:

I take it this exhibition builds on the work the Hills started more than ten years ago.

There are some interesting names on these memorials including Captain Allan Gilmour whos family came from the Vale of Leven in Dunbartonshire and owned land across Sutherland. Captain Gilmour is listed on several memorials in Scotland.

Another interesting local man was Captain Alfred Will. Captain Will had been a policeman before the war and had served as a male nurse in the British Red Cross in the Balkan Wars before enlisting in the RAMC in 1914. By 1918 he was in the South Persia Rifles and was murdered by mutineers.

Edderton memorial lists three MacRae brothers, all sons of the local minister.

Although Ardgay is a bit of the beaten track these days now that the Dornoch Firth bridge has been built I'm sure this exhibition will be worth a visit if you are in the area.

Thanks

Adam

Captain Alfred Will was the brother of my great grandfather, I have some extra information that may be of some use.
