The above lady, Isabella Dingwall Cousins is commemorated on 2 Memorials in Dollar Parish Church (one of them from the Parish Church, the other from Dollar West Church now closed)

She died 16th May 1918 at Edinburgh War Hospital, Bangour from Pneumonia & Septic 'something' of the Lung.

On her DC, I can't make out a part which I think might say 'Nr. Res.' - could this be 'Nursing Reserve'?

-

She is listed on SNWM, but not on CWGC.......?

Surname COUSINS
Firstname Isabella D
Service Number
Date Death
Decoration
Place of birth
Other Clackmannan/2.
SNWM roll WOMEN'S SERVICES.
Rank Unknown
Theatre of death Unknown

What do we think ....? Confused

Anne

Oh, and before I forget - she's listed on a family stone in Dollar Cemetery but I don't know if she's buried here.

Hi Anne

I am checking this, but there are many reasons why a nurse will not qualify for CWGC. Can you send me copy of DC to my e-mail address?

Thanks

The cause is “Pneumonia 14 days. Septic ulcer of lung 5 days “ . She would only qualify if it turns out she was a serving military nurse. Am checking that.

I understand that she was a VAD not a QA Nurse so like all the unfortunate VADs who died in the 'UK' from natural causes she would not have qualified under the CWGC criteria. Despite the work that they did VADs were classed as civilians by CWGC.

If she was a VAD nurse, a civilian, that would explain he being misssing.

I looked for her as a civilian on CWGC but she's not there.

What was the criteria for being included on SNWM?

This question, I believe, has been raised with CWGC/MOD but somehow I cannot see it happening, certainly not in the near future.

I have a case ( submitted over 2 1/2 years ago) of a lady who died in 1942 during the Singapore evacuation and still waiting. The documentary evidence is undisputable, so what chance WWI Civilians.
