In the Arbroath & District Roll of Honour. Can't see him on CWGC or SNWM.

He's on Arbroath War Memorial. He's listed as a draughtsman on his death cert, so probably no longer in the Army at the time he died.

Derek.

He is not there but it might be possible to make a case for him, depending on the cause of death, etc. Can you send me the DC from the e-mail link below?

1779 Andrew Douglas Christie, discharged June 1915 at Fakenham " no longer physically fit for war service " TB.

Pension record survives on Ancestry. States that "Pensioner died on 28.2.18".

States his illness may have been aggravated by his service.

I have the service file but need the DC, etc to check further.
Although a Pensioner death, 3 years after discharge, might be a problem assuming he died of TB.

Death cert sent Jim.

It states by the way he died of pthisis (tuberculosis) having had it 2 years.
Technically he was discharged 2 and a half years previously, but i don't suppose a death cert would be that precise?

Derek.

Derek

The time period should be ok as I can now establish, beyond doubt, it is the same person. Will get case submitted for you shortly.

Can you find out where he is buried? I assume he is at Arbroath.

This case has passed the first hurdle and is now on the correct desk at MOD.
Well done in finding him.

The name of Pte. Andrew Douglas Christie was added to the CWGC database today.

Name: CHRISTIE, ANDREW DOUGLAS
Initials: A D
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Fife and Forfar Yeomanry
Unit Text: 1st/1st
Age: 21
Date of Death: 28/01/1918
Service No: 1779
Additional information: Son of Andrew and Mary Ann Christie, of Arbroath.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Memorial: UNITED KINGDOM BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE

The UNITED KINGDOM BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE is a new ‘virtual’ memorial where, in future, the names of casualties who died in the UK will be placed temporarily until their grave sites can be found or until their known grave sites have been inspected and all the formalities completed for commemoration at the actual grave.

This will reduce the time in which these names stay in ‘limbo’ between acceptance by MoD and the public recognition of their sacrifice when CWGC adds them to the Debt of Honour. Once graves are found and confirmed, the commemoration will be moved to the actual grave.

Mark

I understand he is at Arbroath but am checking this. Even if the burial place is known the new arrangement is that CWGC add his details to the UK Book of Remembrance for now, as explained above.

Noticed the mention of this man on a post on the GWF in relation to his being added - would have been nice if Derek had been given due credit on that post.

The case was put forward by me on Derek's behalf as I am involved with IFCP.

The persons listed against the casualties on the GWF thread you mention is the IFCP member who submitted the case details / evidence. Derek is not an IFCP member.
The cases I put forward for you and your mother were done in exactly the same way.

Derek and many others have had due recognition by me on this site for finding non comms. Many others potential non comms come to me outwith this Forum.

Thanks for the clarification. It seemed strange that Derek wasn't mentiond in this instance, but you've explained the process to me.
