The problem is that there are 16 J Stewarts in the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) and you really need a date of death, or service number or at least Battalion in order to narrow the search.
Could it be this man? He is the only one I can find with a connection to Lothian.
rname STEWART
Firstname John
Service Number S/7730
Date Death 22/06/1916
Decoration
Place of birth Edinburgh
Other 2nd Bn.
SNWM roll THE BLACK WATCH (ROYAL HIGHLANDERS)
Rank Pte
Theatre of death Persian Gulf.

I think you have a tough job on there. Both buried in the Amara war cemetery in Iraq and died only 4 days apart. Neither have service records that have survived and published on Ancestry and no helpful information on their MIC.
If you can track his medals they should give his number. Otherwise I think your only chance will be to find a date of death in a local newspaper.
Good luck.
