Hello,
Do any members have any photo's of the Seaforth Highlanders memorial at Paardeberg? I understand it stands at a place called Van Duthie or Van Dusie, at Paardeberg. It has a roll of honour upon it as the soldiers who are buried at Paardeberg do not have head stones.
I have been researching a Forfar man called Allan Ross. He was a reservist in the Seaforths when he was sent to SA in 1899 and was killed during the battle. His name is listed on the memorial.
Many thanks,
Stewart

I can't help with the memorial but I looked up the Boer war casualty lists on Ancestry (newly available) and I presume this is your man?

Name: A Ross
Casualty Type: Killed
Casualty Date: 18 Feb 1900
Casualty Place: Paardeberg
Rank: Private
Force: South Africa Field Force
Regiment: Seaforth Highlanders
Battalion: 2nd Battalion
Number: 1682

Hello Paul,
Yes, that is the same man. He also appears in the book, Muster Roll of Angus.
I have found some of his service papers on Findmypast, which made interesting reading, but did not include any reference to his Boer War service.
I've searched on line to see if I can find any details of the cemetery and memorial, but so far have found nothing.
I have wondered if any photo's of it have ever appeared in the Seaforths' regimental magazine? If all else fails I will contact the museum and see if they have anything.
Regards,
Stewart
