WW1 ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS
CAPT. W.F. TEMPLETON
Named on the Tranent War Memorial in East Lothian as:
TEMPLETON, W.F.
William Fowler Templeton – age 29 – Captain 1/4th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.
William was educated at George Heriot's School in Edinburgh before becoming a Student of Arts at Edinburgh University in 1907. He graduated M.A. Hons. English in 1911 and became an English teacher at the Irvine Royal Academy, Ayrshire in 1912. He was commissioned in the Territorial 4th RSF in August 1914 and joined the 1/4th Battalion in Egypt in January 1916. He was promoted to Captain in February and served in Palestine until the battalion moved to France in April 1918. William was killed at Cambrai.
Born 1889 in Tranent. Son of David and Joan (Fowler) Templeton of 66 High Street, Tranent.
Killed in Action – 1 October 1918 and buried in Cantaing British Cemetery, France.
Also named on the George Heriot's School memorial and Roll of Honour, on the Edinburgh University Old College memorial and Roll of the Fallen, on the Edinburgh Provincial Training Centre memorial and on the Irvine War Memorial. _________________ Ken |
