Maurice Charles Mowbray is also on the Stirling War Memorial.

Additional Information: Son of Archibald J. H. and Margaret Mowbray, of Allan Park Lodge, Stirling
He was born in Hamilton; after Ardvreck he went to Radley School in 1910 and to Woolwich in January 1914 before being gazetted in February 1915.
His name is on the Radley War Memorial (as is his uncle's - JL Mowbray kia in 1916). He is also remembered on a family stone in Snowdon Cemetery and on Holy Trinity Church war memorial.
The citation for his decoration appeared in the Radley school magazine: 28.10.1916 The Radleian. Citation for the Military Cross. 2nd Lieut. M. C. Mowbray, R.E.
For conspicuous gallantry and determination, notably when consolidating a crater. His work was destroyed four times during the night by shell and trench mortar fire. He kept his party together, and displayed an utter disregard of personal safety. |

MILITARY CROSS FOR CAPTAIN KELSALL, A.S.C. Temp. Captain Hugh Ainsworth Kelsall (Horse Transport), A.S.C, has been awarded the Military Cross. Captain H. A. Kelsall went from the Military College, Sandhurst, to France with the 2nd Division, First Army, in August 1914, and was through the battle of the Aisne. He was mentioned in dispatches in January last. He was promoted permanent Lieutenant and Temp. Captain, Adjutant to Headquarters Train in April 1916; and has now received the Military Cross. He is twenty years of age, and was educated at Ardvreck, Crieff, and Marlborough College. He is the third son of Mr Henry Kelsall, and grandson of Hannah, Ladv Eliott of Stobs.
However his brother, who is named on the Bowden and St. Boswells Parish War Memorials in Roxburghshire, was -
John Lindsay Kelsall age 26 Captain, "B" Battery, 86th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
John of Bothendene House, St. Boswells was educated at Ardvreck School in Crieff, Perthshire, at Marleborough College in Wiltshire from 1905 to 1909 and at the Imperial College of Science in London. He was commissioned from a Cadet in the Officer Training Corps in August 1914 and was promoted to Captain in the Army Service Corps in July 1915 before he went to France in August. He was transferred to the RFA in June 1917 but was killed at Zillebeke Lake near Ypres two months later.
Born 1891 in Crieff, Perthshire as John Kelsall. Son of Henry and Mary Eudoxia Lindesay (Dallas) Kelsall of Bothendene House, Bowden, St. Boswells and of Moss Side Estate, Rochdale, Lancashire. Grandson of the late Henry Kelsall of The Butts, Rochdale.
Killed in Action on 28 August 1917 and buried in The Huts Cemetery, Belgium.
John was also mentioned in dispatches but was not awarded a Military Cross. _________________ Ken |

Named on the North Berwick War Memorial in East Lothian as:
A. BLACKWOOD PORTER, LT
Aubrey Blackwood Porter age 24 Lieutenant 4th (Reserve) Battalion attached to the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry
Educated at Ardvreck School in Perthshire, at Rugby School and at New College, Oxford where he was a member of the Officer Training Corps. He was commissioned from there in August 1914 and promoted in March 1915. He joined the 2nd Battalion in France in May 1915.
Born 1891 in Stanton Harcourt, Whitney, Oxfordshire. Son of Gerald Montgomery Porter (late 7th Hussars) (died 1919) and of Mary (Blackwood) Porter of West Lodge, North Berwick.
Killed in Action on 3 October 1915 and buried in Vermelles British Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Rugby School memorial and on the New College memorial. _________________ Ken |

Named on the North Berwick War Memorial in East Lothian as:
A. S. ROSS, 2ND LT
Archibald Seymour Ross age 25 Second Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders.
Archie was educated at Ardvreck School and at Glen Almond College both in Perthshire. He was commissioned in August 1914 and joined his battalion in France in February 1915 but he was killed three months later at Richebourg L'Avoue.
Born 1889 in Wimbledon, Surrey. Son of Edward Charles Russell Ross (died 1896) and Margaret Seymour (Osborne) Ross of Callands, North Berwick.
Missing in Action on 9 May 1915 and named on the Le Touret Memorial, France.
Also named on the Glen Almond College memorial. _________________ Ken |
