Robert Turner – age 26 – Private (203899) 5th/6th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
Robert was resident in Tynron when he enlisted in Dumfries.
Born 1891 in Inverchaolain, Argyllshire. Son of Neil and Jane or Jean (Moffat) Turner of Toward Old House, Dunoon and of Burgh Depot, Hamilton Street, Dunoon, Argyll.
Missing in Action on 20 May 1917 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.
Also named on the Tynron Parish Church memorial now in Tynron Village Hall.

His younger brother, Driver Donald Turner (T4/061635) Army Service Corps was awarded a Croix de Guerre in 1918 “for heroic services given on 25th March in keeping up supply of ammunition in the heat of the battle, and by contributing to save valuable material.”
