Courier & Advertiser Wednesday 24 March 2010 : Craigie column:

NEWPORT MEMORIAL :

Mairie Shiels has emailed to say , "There is a little known memorial to the Men of NEWPORT who died in the Boer War. The memorial is in the LENG CHAPEL on the hill above VICARSFORD CEMETERY at FORGAN.

"Named on the memorial are ALEXANDER KIDD (23) , ALFRED MATHEWSON (21) , JOHN TURNBULL (21) , AND JOSEPH HOPTON ( 21) who all died in South Africa . Also mentioned is ALEXANDER FAIRWEATHER (22) who was wounded in South Africa and died of his wounds at home in NEWPORT.

Thanks for that Adam . Thought it was not there but as shown it was listed under Newport and not Leng Chapel etc

Nothing of note in the Craigie section of the Courier newspaper apart from that write up I added .
