Regiment/Service:Australian Infantry, A.I.F.

Second anniversary of sergeant William Buchanan, who was killed in action at the Dardanelles November 29th 1915 - On whose soul sweet Jesus, have mercy. This day brings back our memory fresh of one who's called to rest, and those who think of him to-night- Are those who loved him best. - his loving wife and family 354 Main Street Barrhead
Barrhead News December 1916. Mrs Buchanan 354 Main street received intimation that her husband, Serg Wm. Buchanan who was with the Austrian imperial forces at the Dardanelles had been killed in Action on 29th Nov (1915) Serg Buchanan had been out in Australia for the past 5 years and enlisted in the beginning of the present year at Melbourne. He was in a transport that was torpedoed and was rescued after being in the water for several hours. Before leaving Barrhead he had been in the employment of South Arthurlie print works, he leaves a widow and three Children.
A pathetic interest attaches to the fact that a letter and christmas greeting and gifts for the children were received by Mrs Buchanan from her husband only the day before the official notification of his death.
