I've been trying to pin down the birth details of a man listed on the Castle Douglas WM. Doing a Google search today I was astonished to find, via the Great War Forum, that he is listed on a WW1 "allies of Japan" Memorial in Motomachi, Yokohama, Japan.

Can anyone help fill in the ???s

Andrew Richard Stuart Miller – age 28 – Second Lieutenant: 3rd Battalion attached to 2nd King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Formerly Private (GD/31765) East Surrey Regiment. (Source: Medal Index Card)
Educated in Castle Douglas and at Dumfries Academy, he served his apprenticeship at the Union Bank in Castle Douglas. In 1909 he travelled to Hong Kong to take up a post with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank. He left in 1916 and enlisted in December 1916 in the KOSB. Served in Italy and France. she was born in Croyden Jun Q 1892
Died of Wounds – 21 April 1918.
Commonwealth War Grave – Aire Communal Cemetery, France.

Still haven't got date or place of birth yet but from HSBC Archives I did get:

Andrew Miller joined the bank's London office in 1909 and was there for three years before being posted to the North China Treaty Port of Tiensin (there are various spellings of this name) arriving in March 1912. By 1915 he was in Yokohama (entry on memorial there now explained) and by July 1916 he was in Hong Kong.

Aren't bankers nice people !

Chance discovery Very Happy

Andrew was born c.1890 in India. (that's why I couldn't find him!)

On the 1891 census the family were in Hampstead, London.
Patrick S Miller 34 b. India
Evelyn F Miller 32 b. Liverpool
Andrew R S Miller 1 b. India
Kathleen W S Miller 7 b. India
Kate Kerrison 30 b. London (nurse)
Josephine 40 b. Madras India (Ayah)

The father, Patrick, is described as Assistant Superintendent, Madras Police.
