Mark
Not so good with this one.
Although 21, Morgan is shown as " retired " on the DC with no link to service for the cause of death. It is likely that if endocarditis was the cause of his retirement it was not caused by his service.
A service or pension record would be required to prove this and it appears, neither exists.
Do you know if this family are still in Perth? They may have paperwork. If so, let me know as they may be able to help. _________________ Jim

Lt. Archibald John Morgan, 6th Battalion Black Watch ( attached 16th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders ) has been forwarded as a case, on Mark's behalf, to CWGC / MOD as a non comm death due to service related causes. He died of Septic Endocarditis - 6 months but hopefully MOD will accept my case that this was continually linked to heart problems dating from service in France in 1916.
His details are now in the system. Will advise if he passes the first test.
I am making further enquiries regarding his place of burial.
Will update when further details available.
Well done Mark in finding him. _________________ Jim

THE PEOPLE'S JOURNAL: 06.07.1918
FALLEN PERTHSHIRE HEROES - PERTH
Lt. A. J. Morgan, Black Watch, only son of Mr John Morgan, grocer and wine merchant, passed away at his parents' residence, 2 Kincarrathie Cres., on Saturday evening. An old Perth Academy boy, he was prior to enlistment for three years at Dollar Academy, and had been a member of the O.T.C. there, holding the rank of quartermaster-sergeant. He received his commission in the Black Watch in September, 1915, and went to France early in 1916. He was wounded at the Somme, and was invalided home some time ago. Keenly interested in all forms of outdoor recreation, he had distinguished himself in cricket, golf, and tennis. Lt. Morgan was 21 years of age.
Also commemorated on Dollar Academy War Memorial;

Will the CWGC index show his grave location now that its been traced to Perth or will they just leave it listed as being recorded as UK book of Remembrance in berkshire HQ ??
Maybe their Iain Anderson in the CWGC Scotland based office could check out this info and get them to update it fully
Thanks to all who did the research necessary to cover this fallen soldier of the Black watch. Mark and Jim especially

Nothing to do with Iain.
This will all be updated in due course, until then the commemoration will remain as The Book of Remembrance.
My case for Morgan was only accepted by MOD a month ago. CWGC now have to progress their side of it and this will involve them contacting the Local Authority and the current lair holder. This can take some considerable time. I am not aware if a private headstone exists at present, but expect there may be. If not CWGC will wish to erect one. Bear in mind, the lair is privately owned and this can delay things.

Only Mark and myself were involved here, but Stewartry assisted me in obtaining some of the details which helped to put together a valid case. _________________ Jim

Well done Mark and Jim. Good to see Lt Morgan's service fully remembered.
As an aside, his sister's husband, Graham Conacher Young, appears to have served during WW1 as an officer with the Seaforth Highlanders and the Royal Flying Corps. There is more detail at Dictionary of Scottish Architects.
