I am attempting to identify men from Perth per the Golden Book entries. Very initial stages but I have the following casualty;
Surname BEATTIE
Firstname Peter
Service Number 1507
Date Death 31/08/1916
Decoration
Place of birth Perth
Other Highland Cyclist Bn. (Attachd. K.O.S.B.).
SNWM roll THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS
Rank Pte
Theatre of death F.& F.
MIC has him HCB, Royal Highlanders. I cannot 'see' him SDGW or CWGC.

There is no sign of this man having died in F & F, nor does he appear to have died in England, Wales or Scotland in 1916. Are there details from a source other than SNWM? _________________ Jim

I can't find him.
There are no KOSB mics with that name and amazingly, only 8 other Peter Beatties listed in total.
SDGW have only 2 Peter Beatties listed in total - both Gordons. _________________

I can't help either. I did ask about Peter Beattie on the GWF over a year ago but with no success.

Way behind as usual. I've only just started Perth so I've not scrutinised the papers for city casualties. I don't know if I will be progressing to that extent, but if someone may have information it will be Tommy Smythe, curator, Black Watch Museum, as he has been doing research on Perth men.

By total coincidence I was leafing through some photocopies this morning and found this entry;
THE STRATHEARN HERALD: 23.09.1916
PERTH CASUALTIES
Private Peter Beattie, Cyclists' Battalion, attached K.O.S.B.'s, son of Mr and Mrs Beattie, High Street, Perth, is officially reported killed in action. Private Beattie was 21 years of age. His only brother is serving with the Colours. |

It looks like this man might be missing, however it is unusual to have details on SNWM and not also on CWGC. The reverse is fairly common.
I believe this man might be Thomas Robertson Beattie, son of Thomas Beattie and Margaret Beattie ms Robertson of Perth, born 1894 at Perth.
If correct, there is no prospect of his being accepted for CWGC without a service file confirming the death. The fact he is on SNWM is not acceptable evidence. _________________ Jim

I'll check the People's Journal for more info and a death notice. This one is a bit of a shame really. |

I've got a chap on my local memorial (as having died) but it turns out that he was severely injured and I guess did not return to the area, although he married in 1921 I think. There is no KIA on the MIC so could it be he actually survived the war?

Is there any way of finding out the source of the SNWM entry? Is it possible to contact them to find out where they got their information from? |

Now that you have added the full address I can confirm that he is who I suspected earlier and that his brother was Pte. 934 Henry Beattie Highland Cyclist Battalion, later 2nd K.O.S.B. Henry was a T.F. man who survived the war, died Perth 1951. His service file survives. Typical, not the brother we want.
Interestingly there is a similar link between H.C.B. and K.O.S.B.
I am in touch with a distant relative, but it looks like no more is known of Peter. _________________ Jim

I appreciate nothing more can be done. I had a look at the Perth Churches which are on, but no Peter Beattie commemorated. I wonder if his parents grave has an 'in memorium' for Peter ? |

I will be making arrangements to visit St. Andrew's Church (former), to view the war memorial therein. I have today printed the unveiling report from the P.A. - 21.06.1922. Peter Beattie is named on it !! |
