I was recently handed a bible found on the streets in Glasgow, It was issued to 15992 Cpl James Reid of the 17th Batt Highland Light Infantry.
Inside written in pencil is his name rank and number and the date August. in print at the bottom is the words "On Active Service 1916.
A quick check I discovered he was KIA 2 months later on 13th October 1916 and has no known grave and remembered on the Loos memorial. I also managed to get a foto of his name on the panel and a copy of his medal card. I would like to try and trace a living relative and hopefully return the bible. Can anyone do a check for me on "Soldiers that Died in the Great War" so I have a place to start..?

The MIC gives James W McP Reid.

I believe he will be :
James Watson McPhail Reid, born 31st March 1893 at 16 Kirkpatrick St., Glasgow
Parents were : Robert Reid ( Baker JY) and Jane Reid ms McPhail.
Married 28th June 1892 at Glasgow.

Hope this assists with an appeal in the press
