after the 2 early day motions in Westminster there was a lengthy debate in the Scottish parliament on 11th November (when else?).

Anyone else fancy writing to their MP or MSP to let them know how important War Memorials are to voters and let them know what we are about?

WMT has got mentions in both Scottish and UK parliaments - it would be nice if we could get a similar profile - any chance we could get a royal patron as well Wink how about a Royal serving officer?

Also from a Grimsby paper today, the prime minister has agreed to meet with a cross party delegation (incl Nicholas Soames and Charles Kennedy) about protection for war memorials.

Absolutely, and this goes back to some very early discussion about how we should progress as a group.

Anyone know a Scottish Politician with high profile, or perhaps a clan chief with military background? Should we think seriously about having a patron? or do we need to be a charity for that?

The current crop of Scottish politicians, of all complexions, are a pretty uninspiring lot and I doubt any have a military background.

As for a clan chief; isn't that the sort of mixed message that should be avoided at all costs?

I was thinking of people like (no guarantees these are up to date, but you see what I mean?)

CAMERON: Sir Donald Cameron of Lochiel, KT, CVO. TD, Achnacarry, Spean Bridge, Inverness-shire

CATHCART: The Earl Cathcart, CB, DSO, MC, 15 Smith Terrace, London, SW3 4DL

FARQUHARSON: Capt. A. Farquharson of lnvercauld, MC, lnvercauld, Braemar, Aberdeenshire AB35 5TT

KERR: The Marquess of Lothian, KCVO, Ferniehurst Castle, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire TN8 6NX

MACGREGOR: Brig. Sir Gregor MacGregor of MacGregor, Bt., Bannatyne, Newryle, Blairgowrie, Perthshire PH12 8TR

" Should we think seriously about having a patron? "

Surely that would need to involve a properly constituted " organisation " rather that a Forum / Website with two owners?

It might well do, and I think it might mean becoming a registered charity. I am not urging in this direction particularly, I just asked if we could think about it.

The War Memorials Trust began informally as the Friends of War Memorials and they chose to go the route of becoming a registered charity with a high profile patron. I think that is what gives them the high profile to be mentioned in both Westminster and Edinburgh parliaments.

Do we want to go that route? I am only asking the question.

Paul

To be honest I don't think we are ready for that. Right now we have a very informal set up and that seems to suit the majority of our members. By the way, I think patrons would only get involved if it was more formal.

If there is a desire for something more formal it might be worth pursuing but that would mean a committee, and committee members, and committee meetings, and AGMs, and costs and that's a hassle I don't think many would want to take on right now.

Cheers

Adam

I think you are probably right. It works well for us so leave it be. I just wish we could get a bit higher profile and thought it worth noting how WMT have achieved this, starting from a (presumably) similar place.

Patron? Not something I have any intention of pursuing at the moment.
