Edward Murray, 1/5th KOSB is listed on the New Abbey Memorial but not by CWGC or SNWM.
I have found a MIC giving the service number 34281 and "Stewartry" reckons that with that number he might have been a late entrant (1918) and served in France.
Could someone have a look for service/pension record, please? _________________ Ken |

Had a quick search, no sign of him. This man (34281) may have survived.
No record of his death overseas. There are some possibles died in Scotland but none local to New Abbey.
A check of local papers might provide more clues. _________________ Jim

Thanks for looking guys.
There was a promising 1919 death at Springburn, Glasgow - the parish for Stobhill Military Hospital - but he was a Royal Inniskilling Fusilier from Glasgow.
I'll go back to the newspapers. _________________ Ken |

On the basis of his regimental number, Edward was mobilised in mid-June 1918 and most probably did not land in France until 2nd November. He was posted to the 1/5th KOSB and likely to have arrived 'in the field' with the battalion two days later, just one week before the Armistice.
I tried previously to search for a post-war death but as with others, didn't get very far. Since he is commemorated on the New Abbey Memorial, it is surprising that there isn't a full entry for him in the Stewartry RoH. However, the more research I do, I find that this scenario isn't as rare as I first thought.
