Named on the Galashiels War Memorial in Selkirkshire as:
GNR. JAMES HENDERSON. Royal Garrison Artillery
James Henderson – age 43 – Gunner (159202) 254th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery.
James had been working in a paper mill in Balerno, Currie, Midlothian for about 20 years when he enlisted.
The 254th Battery went to France in February 1917.
Born 1875 in Galashiels. Son of the late Margaret (Wilson) Henderson (died 1893) and of James Henderson of 152 Croft Street, Galashiels.
Husband of Catherine (Carmichael) Henderson of Fairbairn's Buildings, Balerno who he married in 1908 in Edinburgh.

Ian Donald Cruickshank Veitch, M.B., Ch.B. (Edin.) – age 38 – Major (246179) Royal Army Medical Corps
Ian was educated at George Watson's College in Edinburgh before studying medicine at Edinburgh University from where he graduated in 1930. He became a G.P. in Galashiels and, as a keen athlete, he was appointed President of the Gala Harriers Club. He was commission in the RAMC in September 1942 and was posted to the 9th India Infantry Brigade. After serving in the Burma campaign in 1944 he was appointed Deputy Assistant Director of Medical Services at Bangalore, where he remained until he was invalided home in December 1945. Ian died in the military hospital in Edinburgh Castle.
Born 1907 in Currie, Midlothian. Son of John Veitch (died 1931) and Jessie (Cruickshank) Veitch of Dunnbrae, Lanark Road, Currie, Midlothian. Husband of Elizabeth Isabella (Smith) Veitch of 12 Sime Place, Galashiels and of Edinburgh who he married in 1935 in Aberdeen.
Died on Service on 4 March 1946 and buried in Currie Parish Churchyard, Midlothian.
