Peter Black was shot at dawn for desertion.He is also listed on the Newport memorial and Gordon Small`s book "The Newport on Tay and Wormit War Memorial" outlines how his friends campaigned to ensure that his name was on that memorial-against the original memorial committee`s wishes.

Peter Grant of the Royal Scots was Killed in Action on 24 March 1918 and is on the Flisk Memorial but he also had a younger brother who was Killed in Action on 24 March 1918 but is not on the memorial.

The one on the memorial is:
Sergeant Peter Grant born 20 Sep 1887 and served with 9th Battalion The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment), Service Number 350017 and date of entry into France was 24 Feb 1915. He is reported as Killed in Action on the 24 March 1918 and Remembered at Pozieres Memorial, France.

His brother is:
Lance Corporal Duncan Grant born 27 Oct 1896 and served with 23rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), Service Number 1279 and date of entry into France was 16 Nov 1915. He had then changed to 17th Battalion Royal Fusiliers with Service Number G/49265 and was reported as Killed in Action on the 24 March 1918 and remembered at Arras Memorial, France.

Their parents were William Grant, 1852-1936 and Elizabeth Amos, 1856-1933. Married 4 March 18887 at Whittinghame, Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland.

The Kirks and Crawfords are all related through their Mother Catherine McQueen having been married on 15 May 1877 to John Kirk who died on 22 Oct 1879.
She then married Andrew Crawford on 29 May 1884.

Andrew Kirk, b 27 Jul 1877 served in the Black Watch at Perth 1901 Census and then Boer War and WW1. He survived and was a Pipe Major and then had a lot to do with the Boys Brigade at St Andrews.

David Kirk, b 19 Aug 1878 was also at Perth 1901 Census and then Boer War and WW1. The medal roll has him as DONALD. He died of wounds 19 May 1917 and is buried at III. J. 58. Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension.

John Kirk, b 10 Jan 1880 was also at Perth 1901 Census and then Boer War and WW1. He was a Sergeant and died of wounds on 12 Apr 1918 and is buried at I. A. 22. Pernes British Cemetery. Husband of Christina Harrow Kirk.

James Crawford, b 13 Apr 1885 was S/16347 Royal Higlanders and then 39538 with 13th Bn Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment. He was Killed in Action 1 Aug 1918 and is buried at IIIA. A. 10. Raperie British Cemetery, Villemontoire, Age 33. Husband of the late Margaret Gilchrist Crawford.

Alexander Crawford, b 16 Jul 1886 enlisted 18 Dec 1903 with the Royal Highlanders, No. 9696 and was Discharged 17 Sep 1915 as Sick. Para 392 XVI KR with rank of Corporal.
He was then registered dead Jun 1919 at York, Yorrkshire East Riding, Volume 9d Page 55.
He is buried at L33, Cupar New Cemetery, Fife. Date of death: 06/06/1919.

Peter and Duncan Grant are listed on a family headstone in Falkland Cemetery and are now named on the new memorial in Falkland on Brunton Green that was unveiled in November 2014.
