Bdr. John Ward, R.G.A. is commemorated on the Moulin (Pitlochry) War Memorial.

I have just found his DC. He died 7th January, 1917 at Auchnahyle, Parish of Moulin - Bdr. R.G.A. 42nd Coy.

Had a look for MIC (too many) and no joy with Service Records. The chances for recognition by CWGC ?

I am pretty certain this man is 279678 Bdr. John Ward, 42 Coy. RGA. He was discharged unfit in May 1916. I have his records.

Can you please e-mail me the DC to check out further?

Thanks for the DC.

It confirms he is the man I thought it was by address, etc. The cause of discharge was TB and this resulted in his death. It is interesting he is listed as a soldier, despite being discharged. He was of course, an Army pensioner.
It can be proven his death was due to his service so there should be no problem with him for MOD.

279678 Bdr. John Ward, 42nd Coy. R.G.A. has been forwarded as a case, on Mark's behalf, to CWGC / MOD as a non comm death due to service related causes (GSW & TB). His details are now in the system.

I am making further enquiries regarding his place of burial.
Will update when further details available.

I have, finally!, found some info on John Ward from the newspaper as follows;

THE PEOPLE'S JOURNAL: 13.01.1917
PITLOCHRY

The death occurred on Monday at Auchnahyle of Mr John Ward, who was some time ago discharged from the Army on account of ill-health. He formerly served as a soldier, and on the outbreak of war joined the artillery. He was gassed and wounded in action some months thereafter. Private Ward was about 35 years of age, unmarried, and a gardener to trade.

MILITARY FUNERAL AT PITLOCHRY

On Thursday afternoon the remains of ex-Bombardier John Ward, of the Royal Garrison Artillery, were laid to rest with military honours in the Holy Trinity Episcopal Churchyard, Pitlochry. The cortege from Auchnahyle was headed by a firing party of the Scotttish Horse and a detachment of Pitlochry Volunteers under Lieutenants Warren and Liddell. Funeral marches were played by Pipe-Majors M'Donald, Pirnie, and Gordon. The service at the church was taken by Canon Cooke, M.A., concluding with the Dead March in "Saul" played by Miss Rose. Bombardier Ward, who served with the R.G.A., before the war, rejoined on the outbreak of hostilities, and while on active service was wounded in the back and gassed, as the result of which he was discharged. He was a native of Pitlochry, 35 years of age, and has another brother serving in the Army.

It has now been confirmed that John Ward was interred at Holy Trinity Episcopal Churchyard, Pitlochry on 12th January 1917. His parents are buried nearby.
His grave is not marked. When accepted by MOD, CWGC will take all possible steps to try and have a headstone erected.

Details of the lair and contact for the churchyard have now been passed to CWGC.

The case for Bdr. John Ward has now been accepted by MOD. His details will be added to the CWGC Debt of Honour Roll in time. There is a technical issue at present which is causing a delay in additions being made.
I will post the details when available.
