My friend Capt Ronnie Leask MBE informs me that on looking at the " Leith Observer " he found the newspaper report about the dedication of a Pulpit designed by Sir Robert Lorimer as a Memorial to the TWO sons of the minister of CHRIST CHURCH Scottish Episcopal church , Trinity Road , Edinburgh .
Both sons were early casualties in the Great War says the newspaper article . Capt Geoffrey Herford , RMLI , killed aboard HMS Monmouth at Coronel and his brother Lt Bernard Herford of the RM Chatham Batt at Gallipoli .

My friend informs me that this Christ Church , Trinity Road , Edinburgh is nowadays a dwellinghouse so what has happened to the Pulpit that was dedicated to the two sons of the Minister of that church ?

I've moved this to Queries & Requests and amended the title since before we can find the pulpit I think we need to know what happened to the church.

There is another Christ Church in Edinburgh in Morningside but when they were built Edinburgh and Leith were seperate burghs so I don't think they are connected.

As far as I know there is no Episcopal Church in Trinity today. There is St James' in Leith, however when Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at Dean Bridge closed in the 1940s its furniture was shared around several Episcopal churches in the City so the pulpit could be in any of them.

According to the Trinity Conservation Area Character Appraisal, Christ Church Episcopal Church was converted to a private dwelling house in 1980.

Birds eye view of former Christ Church, Trinity Road, Edinburgh

Looks like it is on the east side of Trinity Road opposite Primrose Bank Road.

Thanks ADP, the DSA webpage also confirms a War Memorial tablet from January 1921.

On the subject of closed Episcopal churches there are another four in Edinburgh which are now closed and may well have had memorials

St Matthew's - Abbeyhill
Church of the Holy Trinity - Dean Bridge (closed 1940s?)
St Luke's Episcopal - Jock's Lodge
St Andrews - Canongate

Plus another three mission churches

St Mungo's Mission Church -Balerno
St John's Mission Church - Earl Grey Street
Morningside Drive Mission - Morningside Drive

I wonder if the Scottish Episcopal Church would know? The General Synod is in Edinburgh. Has anyone contacted them yet?

Another memorial from this church.

From ‘The Scotsman’ - 2nd April 1921

Christ Church, Trinity Road, Edinburgh

An oak tablet has been placed on the south wall of Christ Church, Trinity Road, Edinburgh, to commemorate the gallantry of twelve men connected with the congregation who fell during the Great war. It was unveiled by Mrs Herford, the wife of Canon Herford, the rector who lost two sons in the war, and formally dedicated by the Very Reverend H, S. Reid, the Dean of the Diocese of Edinburgh. The design of the tablet was made by Sir R. Lorimer , F.R.I.B.A., A.R.A.
