695 2nd Security Group United States Air Force Support Squadron - RAF Kirknewton memorial benches
Location: Each side of the Scots-American Memorial, West Princes Street Gardens
OS Ref: NT 251 739
The United States Air Force was stationed at RAF Kirknewton outside Edinburgh between 1952 and 1966.
They left two benches in Edinburgh near the Scots-American memorial. One was placed there in 1962 during their stay and the second was when they were leaving.

RAF Kirknewton was used as a Listening Station by the USAF in the period 1952-66. It is currently used by gliders.

Paul
I think they can stay seperate. I was going to do that but decided to put them together.
I see the bench has moved position slightly farther away from the memorial. Perhaps the Council were unaware of its original position when it retuned from its repaint?
