The Moray group that I mentioned - their website is how I found out about the memorial at Ballindalloch that we did not have listed so could you please tell them we have a link to their site on our project and ask them if they know of any other memorials that we haven't found yet?

I'm just about to leave Elgin; see you about lunch time!

Roxy

PS Can you check that the Ballindalloch WM is different from that at Bridge of Avon?

Busy..busy. Unfortunately more folk want to know about service records than war memorials but at least we are not twiddling our thumbs!

It's been a very good day - lots of queries on a variety of subjects. Quite a few people brought photos and documents for us to have a look at.

Hopefully we've generated some interest in our sites.

We'll upload some photos to the site over the next couple of days.

I take it by Ballindalloch you mean the memorial listed here by it's location " Bridge of Avon ". I came upon this one being miss-named during research the other day.

From their local knowledge they will confirm that this memorial is that of Inveravon Parish. The names on it, together with Glenlivet ( 55 from WW1 and 11 from WW2 ) is the total for Inveravon confirmed in other sources.

Up until 1953 Glenlivet was a quod sacra parish of Inveravon. UKNIWM are now aware of this.

I popped in to say hello to Dave and Adam; Anne was their as well. Plenty of folks there; keeping them on their toes. Hope in ended successfully.

I've just been through Ballindaloch; other than possibly in Ballindalloch Castle, the only war memorial that I can find is the one that is posted on the forum - that memorial doesn't 'claim' to represent any particular town or parish. Perhaps Jim knows if there is a memorial in the castle? I couldn't check; it doesn't open till May (I know that's next week!)

I'll leave Ballindalloch on the Moray 'sticky' until I get confirmation that there is not a memorial 'missing'.

Roxy

I feel certain the reference to a memorial at Ballindalloch is to the one listed as " Bridge of Avon "which is sited at Delnashaugh, Ballindalloch, with the Castle nearby.

If you total it and the one for the Glenlivet parish area you get the total for Inveravon (55+ 11). One might ask where is the memorial for Inveravon Parish? I believe you will find they are one, and the same and that the missing Ballindalloch civic memorial does not actually exist.

Tomnavoulin & Glenlivet Parish should be Glenlivet Parish. It is at Tomnavoulin in the Parish of Glenlivet

Although in Moray today Glenlivet and Inveravon were originally in Banffshire.

Sadly I could not access the internet but managed without it.

It was a good day, and long and tiring, I crashed out last night when I got home so it's taken until tonight to update the forum.

It was really good to meet Anne and Roxy. We can now put faces to names.

We've got some photos to upload soon too.

Can these be changed to Glenlivet and Inveravon respectively now that the parish situation is clear?
Both were parishes at the time, as they were after WW2 and later returned to being one parish, Inveravon ( sometimes Inveraven). The fact that Glenlivet was a quod sacra parish of Inveravon may account for the use of " district " there and was not uncommon in such situations.
