Adam and I will be attending the Annual Conference of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies this Saturday 25th April, in Aberdeen.
Details here:
http://www.safhs.org.uk/SAFHS_Conference.asp
We will be taking a table as the Scottish Military Research Group, which we have adopted as the "umbrella" title for various projects we're working on, which includes both the Scottish War Memorials Project and the Scottish War Graves Project.
The purpose of our attendance is to publicise these projects and make people aware of what exactly it is we do.
We wll have some displays of the work we've done, and will have some promotional material for the Research Group. We will also have promotional material for some of the organisations we are assisting, such as the UK National Inventory of War Memorials, and the museum of the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
We will have laptops running which will show people both forums and the information they contain. We will also have some databases to show people what information is available. These databases will include:
Soldiers Died in the Great War
Army Roll of Honour for the Second World War
Medal Rolls for the South African War
Rolls of Honour for various towns, organisations and businesses
We will also have items for sale - these will include the first fruits of the work done by members of the Scottish War Memorials Project. As a taster for our eventual full database, we will have CDs featuring the transcriptions of civic war memorials from various areas of Scotland. These CDs will include transcriptions for:
Lanarkshire
Isle of Lewis
Sutherland
East Lothian
West Lothian
Fife
We hope that if you plan to attend the conference you will make a point of coming to see us. You're assured of a warm welcome if you do! |
