Looking again at the Newbattle Church War Memorial it should also be considered a civic memorial as well.
You can't see it from the photographs but the inscription at the top says
"Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Men from the Church and Parish of Newbattle who have fallen in the Great War"
The names cover Newbattle, Newtongrange, Easthouses, Lothian Bridge and Eskbank & Dalkeith.
Newtongrange, Easthouses and Eskbank & Dalkeith all have their own memorials so this 'Church' memorial is also the civic memorial for Newbattle and Lothian Bridge.
