John is also named on the Yester Parish War Memorial in Gifford Village, East Lothian as:
JOHN KETCHEN
John Ketchen – age 21 – Private (831) 1/1st Battalion, Lanarkshire Yeomanry.
In 1911 John was an apprentice butcher at Crawford in Lanarkshire. He landed with his battalion at Cape Helles, Gallipoli as dismounted troops in October 1915 but he was killed a month later.
Born 1894 in Broughton, Peebless-shire. Son of David and Annie (McLean) Ketchen of Yester Mains and of 14 Strawberry Bank, Linlithgow.
Killed in Action on 19 November 1915 and buried in Pink Farm Cemetery, Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey.
